All departments of Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) will use e-tendering for availing products and services. Through e-procurement, vendors can sell their goods and services via the internet. The online tendering process helps avoid long queues, save time and money, reduce paper work and bring in transparency. Only authorised officers can access data and view bids submitted by participants. With digital signature certificates and secure socket layer certificates the process is extremely secure. The Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust online tendering is carried out like the traditional tendering process in an electronic form. Digital signature certificates are mandatory for participating in e-tendering in India.
The office of Controller of Certifying Authorities (CCA) was set up in the year 2000. One of its primary objectives is to promote the use of digital signatures for authentication in e-commerce and e-governance. The CCA issued licenses to eight certifying authorities (CAs) under the Information Technology Act 2000. These CAs are authorised to issue digital signature certificates (DSC). The standards and practices to be followed were defined in the rules and regulations under the Act. From time to time, CCA issues the guidelines to be followed.
